A proactive, customer-first entrepreneur, focused on having an impact on a company with consistently making an impact on business with innovative ideas.
He is also a proven team builder who delivers effective CEO support and serves as a catalyst in creating new business opportunities, establishing strategic partnerships and overcoming regulatory barriers.
CA Bhagat Singh shares his thoughts, challenges & his journey so far in an exclusive interview with CLIQTAX:
CT: Please tell us something about yourself, your experience & your journey?
BS: I am a Chartered Accountant by Profession (qualified in 2006) and a Passionate Speaker, Influencer, and Business Coach by passion. Chartered Accountancy was never my dream. My Father was having a small Watch repair shop which was the only source of income for our family.
I had a keen interest in Finance, Investment & Real Estate since beginning on account of knowledge imparted to me by my Grandfather and I always wanted to pursue a Management Degree from reputed B Schools to become an Investment Banker but I think destiny has some other plans for me and I had to pursue CA as this was the only Professional Degree available at a reasonable cost.
The Degree of Chartered Accountancy blessed me with expert knowledge of Finance, Law, Accounting, Wealth Management, Costing, etc but I decided to pursue my Professional Carrier in Finance, Investment & Real Estate as these were my passionate areas of Interest.
I joined Vardhman Polytex Limited in 2006 in their Finance Department and earned a substantial exposure in Working Capital Management, Long Term Funding, Subsidy Assessment, Restructuring, Liaising with Bankers & Government Department, FCCB Issuance, etc.
In 2015 I joined Oswal Woollen Mills Limited (Nahar Group) to further diversify my expertise and intellectual thought process. At present being the Senior Vice President of the company, my profile involves handling Financial Activities, Investment Activities, and heading Solar & Wind Power Units spread across India.
This new profile at Nahar Group not only further sharpened my Financial Skills but my skills as a leader and administrator have also been established and sharpened.
I have been empowered with an Entrepreneurial & Powerful Analytical Mind by the investment profile that includes regular contact with Start-up Founders, Venture Capitalist, Fund Managers, and Wealth Management Specialist.
Industry / Corporate are the rightful places that allow a person to earn their living by providing them with practical insights into the business processes and on the basis of a university degree, this empowerment is indeed not possible.
CT: What made you want to become a Motivational Speaker?
BS: Since my school days, I have always had a flair for public speaking and loved to anchor/host events on various platforms, as it not only enables you to get recognized in the market but also enhances your confidence.
During the course of my professional journey, I used to take many interviews every year for Chartered Accountants, MBA and other professionals for a various managerial post in the organizations but many a time feels disappointed on account of the fact that these budding professionals lack confidence, communications skills, presentation skills and most importantly the VISION of their life apart from earning few bucks for their family.
Instead of criticizing them, I decided to elevate them from “EMPLOYEE” to “SMART EMPLOYEE/ENTREPRENEUR” by inculcating these smart communication /presentation tactics to the business professionals through my workshops / Seminars
We need to recognize that universities only offer degrees but the Workers earn compensation from the industry for their "SKILLS", not for their qualifications.
CT: What’s the mission of your life?
BS: I'm on a quest to develop ENTREPRENEURS in India and make them escape the glamour of fixed income which deteriorates employees’ mentality and makes them bound to vicious circle 9 to 6 corporate jigvig that destroys their thought capacity.
MOST PEOPLE THINK THAT A PERIOD OF 4 to 5 YEARS IN BUSINESS IS LONG ENOUGH TO GET RICH, BUT THEY ARE READY TO Invest A PERIOD OF 40 YEARS IN JOB TO earn few bucks that are NOT sufficient to meet the POST RETIREMENT FUNDS REQUIREMENT in the majority of the cases. What an Irony!!
Entrepreneurship is not a JOB, it’s a lifestyle.
Every individual is unique and possesses the competence to do something different in life and be an entrepreneur. In pursuance of my mission, I would be making the people /employees recognize their capabilities / Self Confidence and the power of positivity in their life.
Being an Employee, we can make our only one generation survive, and being an Entrepreneur we can make our many generations survive.
CT: What is the meaning 9-5 scam you always discussed in your workshops/Seminars?
BS: I still draw my thoughts from practical life and this quote is part of that idea as well. The age of average retirement is 65 and the life expectancy is 78. It means we're working for 50 years to be free for 13 years of our life period.
Isn’t that shocking? Along with the glamour of fixed wages, this 9-6 corporate lifestyle takes away the “Strength of thought from the Individuals" so they do not recognize/realize these essential items of life.
CT: JOB provides a means of living to most people but you define JOB as the Riskiest Investment and Glamorous thing, Isn’t it Surprising? Why a contradictory View?
BS: JOB is an asset class because we invest not our Money but precious years into the same. IN EQUITY INVESTMENT, we decide the time of investment and time of redemption but in job ----, date /time of appointment and retrenchment is in the employer's hands. Isn’t it risky but the fact and irony are that we don’t recognize this risk at any point of time.
More than 60% of the employees spend their entire life in executing official duties and never think of becoming an ENTREPRENEUR or creating some passive/alternative sources of income.
We all employees are traveling in a risky boat of the job but are never willing to consider it risky as we are happy with the glamour of fixed income.
CT: Being a Business Coach, what advice you provide to the SME/MSME who is struggling to survive in the present scenario?
BS: It is indeed an unfortunate fact that the financial and overall position of the business houses particularly the SME/MSME is not sound enough and they need immediate support from the government for their survival but still I would like to advise them on the following points:
1. Redesign your Business processes and renegotiate the financial terms with Vendors & Customers.
2. We should not focus on normal business growth rather we should emphasize business-backed on Certainty of Collection & Less Credit Period.
3. The entire SOP’s need to be redrafted.
CT: How you would be going to complete your Mission of “Go for Entrepreneurship”?
BS: I would be conducting Workshops/ Seminars across the World to empower the budding professionals with a positive mindset and make them aware of the hidden wealth in businesses and the Risks involved in Jobs.
It’s only the encouragement and motivation which is predominantly required to start up any venture and unfortunately the same is completely unavailable in the present day for youth. Everyone wants easy money and no Risk.
We have already activated our social media handles to propagate among the masses the IDEA of being an entrepreneur. Many new thought processes are in consideration to engage more youth in our mission to promote Entrepreneurship.
We are in touch with various government/ non-government/ private agencies/ Socialites to support our Mission.
We are also creating specialized/ customized programs/ modules to impart practical Entrepreneurial thought processes to the YOUTH for enabling them to start their Business journey at the early part of their career.
CT: In one of the interviews you quoted “Practical Insight of Industry is more relevant than any degree”. Can you elaborate on this statement?
BS: Promoters require smart budding professionals to lead their EMPIRE (not only run it) and the same would be possible only if Industry Experts provide practical exposure of industrial practices to the professionals on regular basis.
The same would not be possible by inviting the experts as “Guest Speaker “on a need basis as the mindset cannot be changed overnight.
The concept of calling GUEST SPEAKER for upgrading the professionals in my opinion also is not much effective because the frequency of the same is very less and MINDSET CANNOT BE CHANGED OVERNIGHT.
Industrial Visits & Practical Lectures from the Industrial Experts should be made a permanent part of the Curriculum of the Management Institute to enable them to meet the industry requirements.
CT: Your Advice to the youth?
BS: Take risks in your life and aspire to be an Entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship is like Living a few years of your life like most people WON’T. SO THAT YOU CAN SPEND THE REST OF YOUR LIFE LIKE MOST PEOPLE CANT.
It’s high time we need to understand the difference between the power of “ENTREPRENEURSHIP” and “Employment”. Entrepreneurship enables you to SET UP a system (after taking a risk for few initial years) which will earn for you throughout your life rather than in EMPLOYMENT you need to work throughout your life to earn for your living. The choice is yours?
Without Techno you cannot survive in the present competitive world, so conceive & develop your idea on an AI platform only as it enables you to scale up your business exponentially and with greater speed.
