Aarogya Setu App: All about it + A New Update
The danger of COVID-19 is not known to us. Yet, many risks have been combated using the technology of the times.
Today, technology fights most of the battles for us. The enemy is a microscopic virus and the weapon is a ‘mobile application’… Yes, you read that right!
All it takes for you to diagnose if you are too far or too close to catching the virus is a mobile application. It is developed by the National Informatics Centre under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY), with the aim to connect Indian citizens with essential health services.
The governments of different countries are taking precautionary measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus. The government of India is taking necessary steps as well. One after the other, schemes and relief programmes are being launched.
But prevention is better than cure. The Indian government has made efforts to ensure that one does not have to get cured of a virus, as long as one does not get it. This is also being done to ensure individual as well as community safety. The coronavirus spread at the community stage is undeniably the most dangerous. The virus spreads through touch and through infected surfaces. To prevent contamination, the government needs to prevent contagion. Hence, the detection of the hotspots and red zones are significant efforts made in this direction.
The government of India to ensure the above precautionary measures, launched an application available on PlayStore and the Apple Store known as the Aarogya Setu App. The name says it all. Aarogya translates to good health and Setu translates to a bridge. Therefore, the government chooses this name for the application implying it can be used as a bridge to overcome the times of medical emergency and ill-health that we are going through. The application will serve good health to its users.
Therefore, knowing the utility and procedure to use the application is the key to ensure good health and safety from the virus. In fact, it is not only important for us to know the details of the application but also suggesting it to our loved ones is important so that they too get secured.
The Aarogya Setu App is a refined version of the Corona Kavach App previously launched by the government (Kavach meaning shield of protection). The Aarogya Setu app is well-suited for both Android and IOS devices, and the fascinating part of it is that it is available in eleven different languages.
It is basically a coronavirus tracking application, along with a great deal of important information that is available on the app. It has a simple, easy and user-friendly interface. One can choose the language in which they want to access the app as soon as they open it.
In a few sliding screens, the app tells you how it functions. It offers a short tutorial in numbered slides, wherein it explains how the app can be useful to the user and how it functions to protect the user. The app tells you what measures you can take to prevent getting the virus and whether or not you have come in contact with an infected person.
All the user needs to do to enter the app is login using their mobile number and fill in a few details like their occupation, their travel history, and whether the user has a history of international travel in the last fourteen days or not. On the basis of these details, the user gets to know the probability of their having come in contact with a person carrying the virus. This provides a self-assessment tool in which if the user fills the correct details, with a succinct information about himself as asked, the user benefits and can get to know the current status of his having encountered the virus.
The application employs the GPS of the phone which is being used in to detect the current location of the user, and also uses Bluetooth, in order to calculate how far the user is from an infected person or an infected/dangerous/red zone. The app keeps signalling through notifications if the user tends to come into a red zone or come in contact with an infected individual.
Apart from this pivotal function the app performs, it also contains some helpline numbers which are appropriated into the app interface according to the state in which the user resides. The user can directly access and call on the number for any help regarding the coronavirus.
The Ministry of Health provides all official information on the Aarogya Setu App. The app lists things to do and not to do in such medical circumstances. The user can find all this information about the virus and its transmission in one place with one touch.
Moreover, the user can see the latest tweets in the context of the virus and they can also share these tweets to appreciate and follow them.
All of us have been intimated with the fact that a great deal of fake news is reported on WhatsApp and the sources are either anonymous or inauthentic. One needs to verify the news before forwarding or sharing it. In fact, it is as dangerous as the virus itself.
However, using the Aarogya Setu App one can find all the essential tools required for their safety which implies they do not need to indulge in WhatsApp forwards or fake news anymore.
Since the app keeps a track of the user’s location, every time the user steps out, they get alerted if they encounter an infected person. Therefore, a number of people have recommended the use of this application. The following links can be used to download the application:
